i need to take sundays off seriously. and not wait days between writing entries so that my daily events read like novels. i appologize again for the ridiculous length of the last one XD. hope i didn't bore anyone to tears and eventually death. ;)
so this is an art dump! woo! first piece of OCAD/real portfolio shiz that was such a bitch to do i almost cried this morning. starting off with the fact that i had to close last night 'cause i took a shift for sasha and coupled with the fact that i frigging partied like an animal all last week while working and going to class full time i left myself NO TIME to work on my projects and assignments. so i get home around midnight which is later than usual 'cause i had cash out problems of course and was all delirious and joking around with vanessa and my manager until late. i started on the project at probably around 1am XD. worked until like 5:30am, got to sleep around 6am, woke up at 8, got ready and called a cab (if i had rode my bike and got ready properly i would not have been able to sleep at all XD). our project was to pick one colour and represent it in a suitable design incorporating some kind of typeface into it. simple enough and i already had the general concept sketched out in my new mini sketchbook so i knew what i was doing at least. anyway got it done and when i woke up i was stumbling around trying to get ready and of course couldn't find the shirt i wanted to wear so i was TOTALLY raging and tossing my room upside down at one point i just sat on my couch and cried for a sec before i realized i had like 20 minutes to get to wait for a cab and drive to school in downtown rush hour traffic heh. so i finally get it together and get to class. about two minutes late or so.
the presentation wasn't as good as i would have liked. first of all he twisted it around and made it so that we presented another person's work instead of our own. so we had to go up and say what we liked and didn't like and make suggestions on other people's work, then he would ask 'who did this one?' and they'd stand up and give their reasons. i understand his angle i guess but since i was so snappy and emotionally wrecked at this point i wasn't too thrilled. the girl who presented mine had no idea what i was trying to "say", she said it was either a good thing or bad and couldn't read one of the words XD. i find the whole 'trying to say' thing really annoying though. the idea of the project was to represent a colour. so me and lots of others actually, just thought of all the things that came to mind for a particular colour and plotted them on the page in an appealing manor, no political/social/controversial message. also i picked purple and i find that it doesn't have an obvious and easy way to 'say something' with it like say red, blue, or green which is what like everyone else picked besides me and two other girls who did purple. and all three of us did the same thing in different ways. what's purple? hmm... grapes, the night sky, royalty, eggplants, purple haze XD etc. it was cool though 'cause after i explained myself (so not the way i wanted to and had jotted down on paper might i add T__T) one of the girls spoke up and said she thought it was really beautiful and i was all 'OMG thank youuu'. and another guy spoke up and said he thought the typeface worked really well with my idea. another chick (every class has one of these types who raises her hand to critique everyone like five times a piece XD) said she liked the composition! imagine that! me and good composition. i didn't think we really gelled. my prof said my composition was good too but that i had the emphasis in the wrong spot and i got what he meant totally when he pinned my illustration upside down and the dark purple was in the top left corner it was like one of those whooooa moments. 'twas cool. i got another compliment on it when we were outside having a smoke break too so that made me slightly less edgy. but i did skip the rest of my classes today 'cause well... i slept through them!!! *wails* it's art history too so i'm soooo fucked for notes and readings but she puts everything up on the class website so i should be semi-okay. plus one of the guys in my art history class applied and is now working at the cafe so i can totally bug him for notes ha ha. anyway on to the art! sorry another novel...
